Improving the health of underrepresented, underserved, and socioeconomically disadvantaged individuals can help reduce the chronic endocrine disease, mental health illness, and substance use disorder epidemics.  

STATISTICS

People with a reduction of income or face hardship:

  • Have higher risk for mental health conditions and higher prevalence of suicide attempts.

  • Are more likely to develop diabetes and advanced thyroid conditions, and are more prone to obesity.

 

As of 2022, Florida currently ranks number 1 for residents with the highest prevalence of Substance Use Disorder. We're also the 10th highest ranking for states not meeting the treatment needs of individuals with mental health illnesses.

 

One-third (1/3) of Florida's population suffers from endocrine diseases. In Florida, it is estimated that 2.4 million people have diabetes and 5.8 have pre-diabetes. Additionally, 38% of the state population are overweight/obese and 33% have hyperlipidemia.
